Today is the mambo master’s birthday, good ole Tito Puente. WW2 veteran, honorary doctorate holder, and closer of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Tito’s musical life spanned over half a century. That’s a lot of good times had by all, especially by him who seemed to be boundless in energy and joy in his performances, influencing countless others including Sheila E and Carlos Santana (Tito originally wrote “Oye Como Va”).
Today, let’s raise a glass to this man who’s life and exploits makes others pale in comparison. For today’s drink we will have………….The mambo.
The Mambo:
Ingredients
½ Part Apricot Brandy
½ Part Tito’s Vodka
⅓ Part Campari
2 ½ Parts Orange Juice
½ Part Orange Curacao
How to mix
Fill a shaker with ice cubes. Add all ingredients. Shake and strain into a chilled highball glass filled with ice cubes.
Now you gotta shake it, and shake it till the ice crystals float on the glass, so we suggest shaking it to good ole Tito Puente’s Drinking Mambo.
Did not know Tito wrote Oye Como Va! Enjoy his music and like this pairing, nice way to celebrate his day.
