North Carolina is one of the greatest places to live. You can hop in your car, point it east or west and in roughly a couple of hours find yourself at the beach or in the mountains.
This weekend, point your car east. Drive till you hit the ocean, then turn right. Keep driving until you hit a point where you have to hop a ferry. When you disembark, you will find yourself on Ocracoke Island. A magical place where horses run wild and schools close at lunch time.
Friday kicks off the beginning of the Fig Festival and goes on through Saturday. Head on down to the Community Square. Local vendors provide fresh figs, fig preserves, local cookbooks, fig-smoked BBQ, and other figgy-liscious stuff. Learn about Ocracoke’s fig history and culture, and bring the kids for old-fashioned crafts and games.
Enter a cake in the bake off! Dance with the Ocracoke Rockers!
When all’s said and done, wrap up the weekend with a stroll on the beach.
Enjoy! Get “figgy” with it!
